Meet the Artist
Ramona
(The Potter)
Ramona Heintschel is a ceramic artist, microbiologist, and polyglot. She was born in California, but spent most of her childhood split between Arkansas and Nebraska. After obtaining her undergraduate degree in psychology, she spent a decade travelling the world and studying several languages. She then settled down a bit, obtained a second degree, and began working as a medical laboratory scientist in the field of microbiology.
She uses her life experience as a world traveler, nature enthusiast, and scientist to inform her art and creative process. Since starting working with clay and joining the art community, she has noticed a dramatic shift in her life. When she first sat at the wheel, something about the physical connection with earth, and the meditative motions involved in wheel throwing immediately clicked. She instantly felt at ease with the act of creating pottery, along with her studio mates who continue to create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Even though she has always been a creative person, no endeavor has ever felt as “Ramona” as pottery.
Ramona currently lives on the Olympic Peninsula with her wife, dog, and three cats, but has plans on the horizon for continued world travel, and of course, pottery.
